Empty Zen

Empty Zen ft Vibe Leviathan
So, this is the first actually new track specifically for the mixtape blog. It's called Empty Zen and it's with Vibe Leviathan, who is a beast indeed. Check him out on his myspace: http://myspace.com/vibeleviathan you will not be disappointed.

About the song, we kind of just sat down to write some raps for rap's sake after I helped him record a song for his EP "The Geronimo EP" which I made the beat for. It's his last track called "Words of a feather." That ended up being a really dope track, and this one I was equally happy with. So I hope you enjoy.

Run at the sound of the law - The Blackwolf Tapes - Tr 04

Run at the sound of the law
This first song is a serious one off of the Tapes. One of the early songs I wrote on this album.

People seem to really like this song. I think one of my strong suits is storytelling. I'm a storyteller at heart. Anyway here is a summary of the song written by Russel (http://twitter.com/ranix):

"In "Run at the Sound of the Law" Mc Blackwolf presents a fairly damning indictment of the culture and lifestyle usually glorified by the Hip-hop genre. He argues that the arrested development of the urban male is a self-destructive cycle.

"The hook of the song is a simple "We were better men, much much better then." As the narrator looks back on his life, he recognizes that the person he has become is much different than who he set out to be. In calling his past self a man, he recognizes the emotional regression that his life has led to. He also says that he was "better" in the past. As he lives, attempting to gain back the ground he lost as he grew up, he just slides further and further from his halcyon days.

"The title also develops how destructive the narrator's lifestyle has been. When confronted by the police, all reactions fall into basically two categories. You either support the police, or you fear them. For example, when you are speeding, the last thing you want to hear is a siren. When you are mugged, the first thing you want to hear is a siren. This juxtaposition is at the core of Mc Blackwolf's track. The narrator has lost the ability to choose. He always "runs at the sound of the law." Well put Russel. Well put indeed.

Howling at the moon.

Hey wolves. Blackwolf here. My buddy Eugene Ahn has a project over at http://adamwarrock.com. Ever since he started the project I've wanted to start something similar. I'm a busy guy though, and it's been a while since I had the time to work on getting something together. I am working on a free for download mixtape, but I thought it might be cool to combine these ideas. I'll be posting the mixtape track by track. I am going to try to update this blog with a song on Mondays every other week. Some weeks it will be something new and some weeks it will be something already released. I put together a rap album called "The Blackwolf Tapes" and am working on a self-titled ep which is almost finished. Though the primary function of this blog is to display the new songs I will be posting some of these as well.

Anyway, wait up for the first one.
